What to Bring to Your Global Entry Interview

3 min read

You've booked your Global Entry interview — nice work! Now let's make sure you show up prepared. The interview itself is quick (usually 10–15 minutes), but you need to bring the right documents or you risk getting turned away.

Required Documents

You'll need to bring all of the following:

  • Valid passport — This is non-negotiable. Make sure it's not expired or about to expire.
  • Permanent resident card (if applicable) — If you're a lawful permanent resident, bring your green card.
  • One form of government-issued ID — Your driver's license works. This is in addition to your passport.
  • Customs declaration form (if arriving from abroad) — Only relevant if you're doing Enrollment on Arrival.

Good to Have (But Not Required)

  • Your conditional approval letter — You can pull this up from your TTP account. Having it handy can speed things along.
  • Proof of address — A utility bill or bank statement, just in case the officer asks.
  • Travel history notes — The officer may ask about recent international trips. It helps to have rough dates in mind.

What to Expect During the Interview

Global Entry interviews are straightforward. A CBP officer will review your application, verify your documents, take your fingerprints, and ask you a few questions about your travel history and background. They may ask about your job, countries you've visited, and whether you've ever had any customs violations.

Be honest and straightforward. The vast majority of conditionally approved applicants are fully approved at the interview.

Tips for a Smooth Interview

  • Arrive on time. If you're late, you may lose your slot and have to rebook — and you know how fun that process is.
  • Dress normally. This isn't a job interview, but look presentable.
  • Be polite and direct. CBP officers do hundreds of these. Keep your answers clear and concise.
  • Don't bring a crowd. Only the applicant needs to be there. Family members can wait outside unless they also have interviews.

After the Interview

If approved, your Global Entry membership is typically activated within a few days. You'll receive your Known Traveler Number (KTN), which you can add to airline reservations for TSA PreCheck. Your Global Entry card will be mailed to you separately.

That's it — you're in. No more long customs lines. Happy travels!
