Global Entry vs. NEXUS vs. SENTRI: Which Program Is Right for You?
All three Trusted Traveler Programs — Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI — include TSA PreCheck and expedited border processing. But they're designed for different types of travelers. Here's how to figure out which one is right for you.
Global Entry: Best for International Air Travelers
Cost: $100 for 5 years
Best for: U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who fly internationally.
Global Entry gives you expedited customs and immigration processing when you arrive in the U.S. from abroad. Instead of waiting in long passport control lines, you use a kiosk or facial recognition to breeze through. It also includes TSA PreCheck for domestic flights, so you skip the shoes-off, laptops-out security lines too.
This is the most popular program and the best choice for most travelers. The downside? Interview appointments at busy centers can be hard to get.
NEXUS: Best for U.S.–Canada Travelers
Cost: $50 for 5 years
Best for: Travelers who frequently cross the U.S.–Canada border.
NEXUS is a joint program between the U.S. and Canada. It gives you expedited processing at both U.S. and Canadian borders — air, land, and sea. Like Global Entry, it includes TSA PreCheck. And at just $50 for five years, it's actually cheaper than Global Entry.
The catch: NEXUS interviews require approval from both U.S. and Canadian authorities, and interviews must be conducted at a NEXUS-specific enrollment center near the border.
SENTRI: Best for U.S.–Mexico Border Crossers
Cost: $122.25 for 5 years
Best for: Travelers who regularly cross the U.S.–Mexico border by land.
SENTRI provides expedited processing at the U.S.–Mexico border, including access to dedicated SENTRI lanes at land crossings. It also includes TSA PreCheck and Global Entry benefits for air travel. If you live near the southern border and cross frequently, this is your program.

Which One Should You Choose?
For most people, Global Entry is the way to go — it covers international air travel and includes TSA PreCheck. If you travel to Canada a lot, NEXUS is a no-brainer at half the price. And if you're a frequent southern border crosser, SENTRI has you covered.
No matter which program you choose, the interview process can be the hardest part. Check current wait times at enrollment centers near you to plan ahead.
